The Sojourner – Sichuan Pickled Central Otago Cherries

The Sojourner is our tribute to the Chinese gold miners who once journeyed to Cromwell, bringing with them bold flavours and culinary traditions that still inspire today.

We take handpicked Central Otago cherries and give them a Sichuan twist — gently pickled and infused with Sichuan pepper, fresh orange zest, ginger, star anise and a subtle hint of chilli. The result is beautifully balanced: sweet, tart, aromatic and just a little bit wild.

Made in small batches using locally grown Cromwell fruit, these cherries celebrate the land we call home while nodding to the stories that shaped it.

How to enjoy
– Pair with aged cheddar or a creamy blue
– Spoon over roast pork or slow-cooked beef
– Serve alongside duck or venison
– Add to a grazing platter for something unexpected
– Or, eat straight from the jar (we won’t judge)
